FROM THE IDEA TO THE PRODUCT
3D printing is the most sensational technology to date, potentially capable of changing traditional production paradigms radically. Rather than using shapes and moulds or material removal tools, modern additive techniques make it possible to create complex objects in a single step by adding material based on a CAD model. This innovative approach allows optimising the design by abandoning current limits imposed by conventional technological processes and drastically reducing production time and costs. A fundamental role in the application of this technology is played by the surface finishing, both from an aesthetic and functional point of view.
Because of the current limits, inherent in additive processes, the products obtained have a surface quality and roughness values that, for most applications, may be unacceptable. Our surface finishing solutions are able to give the treated parts particularly pleasant aesthetic effects and roughness profiles suitable for correct operation. In case of additive manufacturing for metals, current technologies introduce residual stresses that are far from negligible and can produce deformations or poor mechanical resistance. Current researches in this specific field show substantial improvements in the fatigue performance of components through specific shot-peening treatments.
Our experience in surface engineering, combined with our constant research in surface treatments, allows us to quickly and concretely face the countless challenges required by such a dynamic sector as additive manufacturing.
